RX-78 Real Type Gundam

The idea came from Dengeki Hobby Magazine when they showed Mobile Suits depicting modern warfare patterns. The color scheme is very military like, and I love it man! The kit is a Master Grade RX-78-2 Ver.Ka modified into this. The overall kit is very good, more for a detailing kit as there is additional hand manipulators given for posing and holding onto the beam rifle. Every detail is crisp and sharp for the Gundam, and the overall design is used on GM Type C, but still the Gundam feel is there, no matter what. The overall proportioned is better, even compared to the MG RX-78-2 Ver 1.5, but it still lacks flexibility, like the recently released RX-78-2 One Year War Version. No matter how good the kit is, every modeler will expect more out of it, so as usual, modification is done onto RX-78-2 Ver.Ka :

1. Head
The side ventilation holes have been cut open. Ever since I started doing the opening of holes for Nu Gundam, now it has become like a necessity to me (only Zeta 2.0 need not as the holes are already there...) as it makes the overall look more real. I tried the other model kits without opening them, and all didn't turn out to what I want, no matter what I try, only when I cut open the ventilation holes. The head has to puttied at the sides as it is joined together like those normal Master Grade kits. The head cameras I used the decals given.

2. Chest
Two lines were cut originating from the centre of the chest to the side. The yellow areas in the whole mecha were painted with a base coat of red before spraying yellow to give it a slight orangey feel.

3. Arms
The forearms seem a little plain, so I had to carve out a line on the front part of the forearm for detailing, and at the upper part of the forearm I put 2 plastic sheets for detailing also. The upper part of the arm has 2 pieces of plastic sheets put on to it for extra detailing as there don't look 'natural' without any details.

4. Legs
Two lines were carved onto the knee area as it seems to plain, especially when the calf already has details imprinted onto it.

The panel linings were first carved deeper with a pen knife before I do the airbrushing. The vernian thrusters were all painted with chrome silver and masking has to be done.
